AI for Confluence currently uses ChatGPT as AI integration, therefore you’ll need to set up an OpenAI account and create an API key to be able to use this plugin. There is a free tier available, but be aware that after that additional costs will occur.
Reach out to us via our Service Desk if you have any questions or need help with the setup.
Before you begin
Create an OpenAI account
To create an OpenAI account, please follow these steps:
Go to the OpenAI website (https://openai.com/ ).
Click on the "Sign up" button in the top right corner of the page.
Enter your email address, username, and password in the provided fields.

After you have created your OpenAI account, you can create an API key which will be explained in the next section.
How to create an OpenAI API key?
To create an OpenAI API key, you need to follow these steps:
Log in to your OpenAI account on the OpenAI website (https://openai.com/ ).
Click on the "API" link in the top navigation menu.
Click on the "Generate API Key" button.
Enter a name for your API key.
Choose the API permissions that you want to grant to your key.
Click on the "Generate API Key" button to create your API key.
Once you have created your OpenAI API key, you can head over to the next section to finish the plugin configuration. You can find your API key in the API section of your OpenAI account, and you should keep it secret to avoid unauthorized use. You can also manage your API keys from this section, including revoking them if you need to.
Configure the plugin
Navigate to the plugin configuration
You must log in to your Confluence instance with global system administrator permission to be able to carry out the following steps.
Once the app is installed, it will add a menu item to the admin section. Switch to the Confluence global administration by clicking on the cog icon on the top right of the header bar.
Add the API key
You’ll find a very simple form where you can enter the API key that you created in the steps above. Once you entered and saved your API key you’re good to go and you’ll see an “Ask AI” button appear in the Confluence editor toolbar. Now you can head over to the user guide to see how that works.
