Project admin guide: Creating field mappings

Precondition: Custom fields have been defined…

Field names configuration

Navigate to the project settings of your project and click on the menu item Field names configuration.

On this screen you will find a list structured by the issue types configured for your project. You are able to define different mappings for a custom field per issue type in your project.

Define a project specific field name

Hit the button Add field. On the subsequent screen the issue type is pre-defined and can’t be changed.

Defining a project specific field name is very straightforward.

• The dropdown for the Default name will list all custom fields generally available on the Jira instance. The list includes the custom field type. A hint “not on any screens” will be displayed if the field is actually not usable for you since it is not (yet) configured for any issue screens of your project. Select the field for which you would like to define a custom name (and description).

• The Default description shows the globally configured descripion for the field (either directly for the custom field or via the field configuration scheme).

• Enter a custom name and, if you would like to, a custom description for the field. This name and description will replace the default name and description on the user-facing screens of your project (see also https://bitperium.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/JPSFN, chapter “Scope of our app”.

• Hit Save.

Edit or delete a field mapping

Select the respective links next to the field mapping in order to edit or delete one of the configurations for your project.

Apply to all

If you want to apply the same custom field name for all issue types in your project, simply click on Apply to all. After your confirmation the mapping will be copied to all other issue types.
